These two single-storey barns have been converted from an old grain mill and stores. Cosy and warm in the winter and cool and airy in the summer the grain stores provide a well equipped home from home. Alongside a variety of board games and books, there’s a large collection of DVDs to enjoy on the 50" TVs. There’s a sunny south-facing garden, with a hideaway den with day bed, in which to enjoy an afternoon snooze. With no light pollution, there’s ample opportunity for star-gazing the dark skies.
Little Polgrain Barns are in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a walker’s paradise, with flower-filled lanes giving way to stunning coastal scenery. A stroll along the lane beings you to the hamlet of Portholland, a pretty cove with a history of smuggling. The pubs at St Ewe and Tregony are local family and dog friendly pubs, within a few miles radius. Unspoilt sandy beaches, ancient fishing harbours, tiny art galleries, great seaside cafes and pubs makes this a place with something for everyone. The cafe in nearby Portscatho offers feast nights throughout the summer. Kayaking, horse riding, cycling and sailing are all close at hand.
This area of Cornwall is renowned for its sub-tropical gardens. Caerhays Castle has featured on numerous TV and feature film dramas and is surrounded by acres of magnificent camellias and magnolias. Many of the plants were originally shipped from China in the 19th century. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is a short drive away, there visitors can spend all day wandering through the walled gardens, jungle valley and enjoy watching the heritage breeds at the South West’s first Rare Breed Farm Park. The Eden Project is also nearby, it’s famous biomes nestle in a reclaimed china clay pit. This amazing complex has a huge indoor rainforest, full of exotic planting, waterfalls and treetop walkways. It’s an ecological hub, with themed seasonal events and provides a spectacular setting for their regular music festival, the Eden Sessions. Charlestown, a regular location for ’Poldark’, is a few miles away in St Austell. It has a shipwreck centre and offers trips on its famous tall ships.
Further afield but easily reached by car or train, the North Coast offers great days out for surfing and visiting the popular destinations of Padstow, Watergate Bay and St Ives. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
Brilliant holiday fantastic cottage everything you need supplied even a starter hamper and very comfortable
Wonderful clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. The welcome hamper was very impressive and the owner couldn't have been more helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Beautiful cottage in a very peaceful setting, which is just what we needed! Very lovely owner and most kind and thoughtful welcome hamper provided. Would definitely stay there again!!
Wonderful, peaceful and spotlessly clean cottage. We had two great weeks in October and did not want to leave. Where the cottage is situated we were able to travel all over Cornwall within the hour. We also enjoyed the country walk to the beach, also the walks on the cliff paths from the beach. The cottage was equipped with everything you would need and was also very warm and cosy. The garden is very big and enclosed so safe for children and dogs. Everything was of a very high standard and we would recommend the cottage to anyone that is looking for a Cornish holiday.
very happy
Lovely holiday. Great that the beach was just a short drive away which had toilets, and a brillant cafe. Garden lovely and spent lots of time in the garden playing sports with our children.
Very nice barn conversion, very well equipped and very clean, great garden for the dog. Would highly recommend it.
A real home-from-home, with every detail covered. Nicky is very welcoming & the cottage/garden were perfect for us. We will definitely book again ?? (If I could suggest one thing, it would be an outside tap/hose to rinse sandy dogs)
Lovely position down a narrow lane with a pleasent walk down to Port Holland. Good welcome pack. Nearest shop St Austel
A quiet retreat near a perfect beach and peaceful countryside. The owner is very hospitable and the welcome pack one of the best and most useful we’ve experienced. Dog friendly with a large enclosed safe garden. Very clean, well equipped and maintained.
Lovely place enjoyed our stay and was made very welcome.
Great cottage we had a lovely holiday.
A lovely gem in the cornwall coutryside! Located in the middle of no where, surrounded by beautiful countryside. The owner was lovely, super helpful and even put out a welcome basket full of lovely edibles. She is very dog friendly. Highly recommended staying here if your looking to switch off and unwind! But the drive to and from is not for the faint hearted as with the coutryside comes small narrow roads with limited visibility. That being said it did not stop us going out and exploring every day no matter the weather!
Fantastic cottage, very welcoming host, beautiful location and scrummy welcome hamper. Great base to explore Cornwall from.
Such a lovely place, couldn’t think of one thing that wasn’t provided. Very well equipped and tasteful furnishings and decor. A lovely welcome hamper too. Only marked down as there are no local amenities and it’s a fair old drive down country lanes to get anywhere although lots of villages/beaches and tourist attractions are within a 30 minute drive or less. We knew that before we booked and liked the fact that it was off the beaten track - so quiet! Loved it.
Our stay February, 2020
Just a brilliant place and location and host. Can't be bettered
