Willow Barn is quite simply lovely! It is a very well presented and finished holiday cottage set deep in a quiet rural location in the lush Cornish countryside, but only minutes from many pretty sandy beaches and coves. This ’upside down’ detached cottage provides the best views from the living area and balcony. It has a bright, stylish, open plan living area with original beams and a large balcony through the bi-folding doors where you can relax with a glass of your favourite tipple. The owner lives adjacent and is on hand should you need advice or assistance during your stay.
The historic fishing village of Mevagissey is 3½ miles away, with narrow lanes that all seem to lead to the pretty, bustling, working harbour. Here you will find many great pubs serving local food and ales, quaint coffee shops and some great local independent shops. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a formerly overgrown and ‘lost’ gem of a garden, has been restored and is worth a visit, even if it’s to see the ‘jungle’ and play hide and seek with the kids.
There are pretty sub-tropical gardens to visit, stunning scenery, quaint fishing villages and beaches, many with sailing, diving and kayaking. Porthpean, 4 miles away, is a favourite with the locals who kayak along the coast looking for seals that bask on the quiet beaches. The Eden Project is another world class attraction within easy reach. Fowey is nearby, a seafaring town and former home of Daphne Du Maurier. It makes a great day out especially for the restaurants and the cafés. You can catch a ferry from here to Mevagissey in the high season, and is a great way to see the coastline of St Austell Bay.
There is a wealth of activities locally including surfing, sailing, swimming, walking, horseriding and many cycle trails with bike hire available. For golfers there are plenty of courses from St Austell to Carlyon Bay’s excellent links course with stunning sea views. Beach 4 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
He had a lovely stay here. Great hosts and would definitely recommend.
Four of us - two couples - spent a very pleasant if partly rainy November week in Willow Barn, which is nicely situated, warm, and in most respects very well-equipped and comfortable. A lot of the equipment was in fact new or very nearly new when we visited. Our hosts Tom and Irene were pleasant and helpful, but also unobtrusive. Very minor downsides were:- + several light bulbs had expired in the kitchen area; + the shower attachment over the bath was in poor condition and not practically usable as a shower if wanted (but the separate shower room worked excellently); + the dining table and chairs are very cramped between the log-burner and the side of the sitting room - manageable and probably unavoidable, but a bit awkward. The plus side far outweighs these minor negatives and we would quite likely visit again.
Great facilities and the house is ideal for family with dog (s) , very nice and friendly owners who where on site and happy to assist when necessary. Good welcome pack and local area information.
Excellent cottage, well worth a visit
An exceptional, elegant, spacious cottage in a lovely setting and outlook. A comprehensive welcome pack.
A lovely cottage, in a serene location. We will definitely re - visit.
What a wonderful place to stay , the welcome pack was the best we had ever had and the views and accommodation was first class . Could not fault anything , Will definitely be going back . Thank you for such a wonderful break .
We loved our holiday at Willow Barn. Lovely garden, very well equipped. Excellent hosts. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Clean, comfortable cottage with a huge garden. Well kept and well equipped. Would definitely recommend.
First class accommodation..Will be back..Welcoming Hamper and bottle of wine very much appreciated.Irene and Tom very friendly and helpful. Excellent location for dog friendly beach and inland sites..
An excellent place. My personal suggestion was for a long grab bar in the shower to help with "older" guests and young children to aid stability. I have mentioned that to the hosts. A lovely place to stay.
Perfectly peaceful , beautiful location . The cottage was amazing and the outside patio and balcony were amazing spaces to enjoy the peace and quiet after a days sight seeing. We would definitely return .
Fabulous cottage in lovely location. Would recommend
Beautiful surroundings, pleasant hosts, and lovely comfortable cottage with fabulous garden. Near to coast and very peaceful.
Tom and Irene were excellent hosts very friendly but not intrusive. The cottage was spotless and the most homely holiday home we have stayed in. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked with everything a cook could need. The welcome hamper was delightful containing lots of lovely goodies. Things to note would be the parking is a little tricky especially when locals driving quickly down the lane but there was the offer to park a little down the lane for anyone who struggled. Care is needed on the slate steps into the garden when wet. Lovely beach 10 minutes away and the beautiful Mevagissey about 15 minutes. A lovely part of Cornwall to base yourself with many many attractions close by. I would definitely recommend this cottage and will most certainly go back again
We had a fabulous holiday, tucked away in the middle of no where.Self isolated in March which was great , as all three of us where in the at risk zone .
A lovely well-equipped, comfortable cottage. Good welcome from host and helpful tour and explanation of things in cottage. Wood-burner was great, as well as the central heating, as the weather was awful. Very nice bathrooms with powerful shower and relaxing bath. The beds were very comfy.
Our stay February, 2020
Lovely cosy private cottage with views of the countryside, situated close to beaches, Eden project, Heligan etc and several shops within driving distance. Your every need is catered for, a well equipped kitchen which we made use of while we were there and the hosts are on hand if needed or they give you complete privacy if not. The lovely welcome pack was appreciated with eggs, butter, juice, tea, coffee and biscuits to name a few of its contents. Weather was awful when we were there and it rained all the time but we were very warm, cosy and comfortable within the Willow Barn. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a base in the area. We would love to return one day.
