Harrowbeard House is a spacious and contemporary detached family home, built by the owners in the centre of the village of Marhamchurch. The property has a large dining room/kitchen, and a spacious living room with cosy wood burner and three sets of French doors leading out to a large, south facing patio terrace with stunning views across rural countryside and to the sea beyond. Set in the pretty and quiet little village of Marhamchurch, it is just 2½ miles to the fabulous coastline and popular beaches, including Widemouth Bay and the tourist hot spot of Bude. The traditional village inn is just a short walk away and has a menu featuring local produce. The village shop is also just a short walk away. Bude has three sandy beaches and a good selection of shops and restaurants, many specialising in locally caught seafood, along with a golf course, tennis, horse riding, an indoor splash pool, surf schools and bowling. The picturesque fishing villages of Tintagel, home to the mystical ruins of a 12th-century castle, Rock and Padstow are close by, and this breathtaking coastline boasts many unspoilt beaches and hidden coves. The wild beauty of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin moors are all within easy driving distance, as is the fabulous Eden Project. For family fun, there’s the Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Horse riding, golf and fishing within 5 miles. Beach 2½ miles. Shop and pub ½ mile, restaurants 1½ miles.
This is truly a beautiful house in a beautiful location - very private with excellent views and plenty of parking. The property is advertised as for 8 people - which there is space for - however the beds are absolutely horrific - cheap and extremely uncomfortable - the single beds weren’t as bad, but we did need to put another duvet over the mattress so that our 6 year old daughter couldn’t feel the springs. The 2 double beds are impossible for two people to sleep in - they are extremely noisy and the mattresses are cheap and thin - we ended up alternating who would sleep in the bed whilst the other person slept on the sofa downstairs - this innitsef was tricky as there wasn’t any extra bedding although we had luckily bought a blanket in the car which was sufficient to use as a cover due to the warmth. We even considered booking into a hotel down the road. Did we mention this whilst we there? No - simply because we just wanted to enjoy our holiday and what really could have been done about it in the week - nothing! The house is extremely modern and has all the appliances that are needed. It does however feel like the owners are relatively new to the holiday home business as the kitchen wasn’t really adequately stocked with crockery etc for 8 people and the very small two slice toaster was practically useless. Would we stay there again? Definitely yes if the beds were changed to less cheap versions. The house is not a cheap place to stay for a week and we would have expected to be able to have a comfortable nights sleep - we couldn’t wait to get home to our comfortable mattress!!
