River Lodge Polperro

This pretty riverside lodge sits in the gardens of the owners’ house in a quiet lane just minutes from the centre of this ancient smuggling and seafaring village. A rarity for Polperro, parking is to the front of the lodge and it also boasts a pretty riverside terrace for that alfresco breakfast or evening barbecue. A large balcony directly off the living room provides an elevated view over the garden. Just minutes away are the quaint working harbour and the narrow winding streets that are home to fisherman’s pubs, galleries, bakeries, cafés, restaurants, and shops selling local caught seafood and local crafts. This house provides the ideal base for that special Cornish holiday.

The historic fishing port of Looe is also close by and has a superb sandy beach providing an excellent day out for the family. Why not visit the local renowned fish market, which sells fresh fish straight off the boats in the harbour? The sheltered bays of Talland and Lantic all offer excellent swimming and bathing against the backdrop of the dramatic Cornish coastline, whilst the scenic Cornish Coastal Path can be accessed nearby, leading visitors through stunning scenery, much of which is National Trust land. The famous seafaring town of Fowey, once the home of Daphne Du Maurier can also be reached by catching the regular ferry across the River Fowey. The abundance of vineyards, orchards and gardens in the region are a tribute to the mild climate, with the spectacular Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan within half an hours’ drive. Equidistant is the ancient fishing port of Mevagissey, its double harbour a colourful array of traditional vessels and pleasure craft. For those who can bear to tear themselves away from the coast, there are many wonderful attractions further inland - such as Bodmin Moor and the Slate Caverns near St. Neot. Plymouth 25 miles. Fishing, sailing, riding, tennis and golf available locally. Beach 2 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
