Lower Deck - Facilities

Stay in part of an historic property in Falmouth, The Lower Deck is a wonderful apartment set within an historic Grade II listed former sea captain’s residence. The property dates from around the 1800 and was a substantial home for a prominent sea captain based at Falmouth, sailing tall ships to many of the trade routes around the world. The property is a 5-minute walk to Falmouth town centre and Discovery Quay where the National Maritime Museum is located. Also a short stroll away is the popular Gyllyngvase beach and café.
The accommodation has been refurbished and has been transformed into a surprising and spacious holiday property set over one level. From the pretty front garden a path leads to the side steps down to the main entrance door. You enter to a tastefully decorated welcoming and spacious living room with its feature fireplace alcove, book shelving, Smart TV and comfy sofas. This is the perfect room to relax after a day exploring Falmouth and Cornwall. From the living room there is an inner hall which has been designed to use the space with a creative bedroom area for a double bed. There is an under stairs storage idea for hanging space plus a clever screen to provide some privacy. Positioned to the front of the property is a large kitchen/dining room perfect for starting the day with breakfast or to create an evening dining for two. Fitted with a modern style kitchen complete with electric oven and hob, fridge and freezer, plus a dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. One of the main features is a fantastic piece of history with a large original Cornish range once used by the cook and servants for the Captain. Another unique part of the apartment is a stunning luxury period style bathroom perhaps previously used as a wine cellar. The arched brick ceiling creates the perfect atmosphere when taking a candle lit soak in the bath. This was fitted in keeping with the character of the property and yet with a modern twist to include a large shower. Outside at the front of the property is a private seating area with table and chairs set within a variety of potted plants and flowers. This is another space to relax and enjoy your stay at the Lower Deck.
The property is within walking distance and based around a thriving harbour, Falmouth is gateway to the beautiful River Fal which runs through an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is famous for its creative buzz with many art galleries displaying contemporary works and venues showcasing independent films and live bands. The many reasons to visit include the fascinating maritime heritage; the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the Rivers Helford and Fal and perfect for walking and family days out; watersports; boat trips running from the pier and quay; and plenty of family friendly attractions. Falmouth is surrounded by several fantastic family friendly beaches and is known for its year round events calendar. Falmouth’s maritime legacy and coastal culture is a huge part of its charm boasting world class watersports on its sheltered waters including gig rowing, kayaking, diving and regularly hosting sailing events such as Falmouth Regatta and the Pendennis Cup.
