Tucked away in a quiet corner, this renovated cottage is situated only yards from the harbour and beach in the heart of the village of Mousehole. Previously the main kitchen and stores for the famous Lobster Pot Hotel, it has now been converted to provide open-plan accommodation with a delightful enclosed patio area and seating to the front. It is the perfect place to in which to relax after a day enjoying the many winding streets, cafés and galleries. Mousehole, on the South West Coastal Path, is a great base from which to explore the many beaches and coves. Lands End, Sennen, Newlyn, Penzance and St Ives are within easy reach. Shop and pubs 50 yards.
If you need the centre of mousehole, this will do.
Lovely cottage and great bolt hole if you were a couple or had a young family however Mousehole very difficult to park so not good if you want to use as a base to visit other places and not dog friendly as not allowed on quay or beaches. If you have dogs stick to fistral or watergate bay on north coast
Felt like we were in a fish bowl ,but on arrival needed to clean plates Hoover and remove rubbish, to the point had no space for recycling later in the week. Lots of people thinking it as a walk way to the harbour ,and on route peeking in, also Veiwing of next door property people walking into the court yard.
It was a delight staying at Kitchen cottage - loved the fact that there clearly had been a lot of thought put into the decor and the equipment; loved the art on the walls and the other touches and also the books - particularly the bird books and books about Cornwall (walks etc..) and also, as a cook, I appreciated the fact that the kitchen was very well equipped - I had brought a lot of kit with me because I’m used to places that are not well equipped or at least only with the most basic as it is assumed that people will eat out rather than cook when they’re on holiday. This wasn’t the case here which was fantastic. Parking was always going to be an issue in Mousehole (we know the area well) but this time of year was absolutely the best time to go to avoid the crowds and we were also very lucky with the weather. Oh, and I haven’t selected any of the ‘best described; because actually all applied perhaps with the exception of the bathroom which was quite ‘tight’ (not surprisingly although we felt that whomever had carried out the conversion had done a lovely job) if you were not fairly slim (thankfully despite liking our food, we both are! :-)
Cottage was very pretty and as expected. It could do with some maintenance as quite a few lights needed bulbs replacing and the outside light above the door didn’t work. The emergency torch was also missing. Nice touches with the milk, biscuits and tea, coffee etc. The courtyard was not enclosed or secure so not suitable for having dogs outside at all. There was no way of making it secure. Mousehole is NOT dog friendly and it is quite a walk to get to the fields. Dogs are not allowed on either of the sandy beaches at any time and can only go on the rocky beaches which may not be suitable for all.
Lovely holiday cottage in a fantastic location in Mousehole. The cottage is extremely well equipped, lots of cooking utensils and plenty of extra bedding. There are board games, books and DVDs if you are there in the winter and a great outside space if you are there in the summer. Plenty of storage space in the bedrooms ad a bonus to have dishwasher and washing machine. We had one small issue which was quickly resolved with the owner. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
Our stay September, 2019
I have no hesitation in recommending this little cottage in the heart of Mousehole. I have been holidaying in Mousehole for many years, usually in a larger cottage with a sea view, but Kitchen Cottage has outside space which is very rare in Mousehole and takes just seconds to walk to the harbour so in my view this was much better. You access the little courtyard to enter the cottage so there is a door sized opening next to a trellace, i have a little shih tzu so i just placed an empty suitcase across the gap whilst we were out there although i appreciate this may not work for bigger dogs but the owner has kindly installed a metal ring on the outside wall where you can attach your dog via a lead which is very thoughtful. The cottage was equipped perfectly and the owner clearly takes her guests comfort and needs into account. There was ample good quality crockery so we able to make good and economical use of the dishwasher. The towels were welcome too as i usually had to bring my own even when paying considerably more. I have a back condition and always worry about the comfort of beds when i go away, i needn't have worried as the beds were super comfy and the double bed didn't give me any problems at all unlike other places i've stayed which cost considerably more. The cottage is bright and clean and whilst small it was ample for 3 adults, my 3 yr old grandson and my little dog. The shower was great too and powerful and i didn't find having just the one loo an issue. Mousehole itself is my little home from home and whilst some may find parking an issue, we came on the train and used the little buses and you can buy a bus pass in advance which is reasonable and keep the costs down. They run very regular too in season. Yes dogs aren't allowed on the beaches but there is a nice little walk along the top of the beach which is a favourite for dog walkers, also longrock isn't far down the coast to give your dogs a run on the sand and you can walk up the hill at the back of Mousehole to the countryside. Dogs are welcome in all the little shops and galleries, pubs and most restaurants so i don't understand other reviewers saying its not dog friendly. All in all i loved this cottage and will be returning next year as i think this is going to be our new go to holiday cottage so thank you so much for providing the perfect base to make our holiday a happy and excellent one plus we had amazing weather too for mid September! We loved it!
