Poldice Annexe is situated close to the town of Redruth. This 1-bedroom spacious annexe is ideal for a couple or a couple with a baby that sleeps in a cot. Enter into the open plan living and kitchen area. At the back is a large bedroom which faces the garden, and there’s also a shower room. There is a patio outside for your use, however the rest of the garden is shared with the owners who live next door.
There is so much to see and do here. Poldice mine is a former metalliferous mine producing arsenic, copper, zinc, tin and now lithium. In Victorian times it was known as the richest mine anywhere on Earth. There are numerous coastal and circular walks including Wheal Maid and Poldice Valley circular walk following the old railway. It is very interesting, full of history and suitable for all ages. Refreshments are available at both the start and end of the walk, and is popular with cyclists. The landscape is littered with ruins, great for photography and wildlife.
Other places to explore are Gwennap Pitt to Carn Marth where on a clear day there are panoramic views across mid Cornwall to Falmouth, the Roseland, the Cornish Alps and Bodmin Moor. Carn Brea and the Flar Lode is a flat easy walk where you can explore the remains of the Engine Houses. A stunning walk is Stithians to Kennal Vale, a disused gunpowder mill, set in woodland and is beautiful all year around. For those horticulturists, then a visit to Burncoose Gardens with 30 acres of woodland walks, over 3000 different ornamental shrubs, trees and herbaceous plants. An unusual garden is Trebah Garden, a subtropical paradise that leads to its own beach and coastal backdrop. Rated as one of the top 80 gardens in the UK, pre booking is essential.
If the weather is not great take a trip to Heartlands, a Cornish mining heritage site in Pool with indoor attractions, gardens and a café making a great day out. As you would expect there are plenty of beautiful beaches. Chapel Porth beach is small and sandy whilst Trevaunance Cove has rocks pools and a pub for refreshment. The closest beach is Portreath, a sandy and shingle beach with a cafe. You can hire bikes and cycle from Bissoe to Portreath and back. Truro is the city of Cornwall 7¾ miles away and is full of history. Wander up and down the cobbled streets and small alleys, explore the variety of cuisine and culture on offer as well as small independent shops and larger retailers. After a busy day, head back to your comfortable accommodation and relax, read a book or watch TV.
