These two stone built holiday cottages date back to the 17 century and enjoy a rural location with superb sea views. Pet-friendly Downhouse Cottage was extended in Victorian times, while Downhouse has a rustic feel with a clome oven in the fireplace and a large garden. Both cottages benefit from a sitting-out area with stunning views of the coastline. Surrounded by countryside, they are perfect for walkers to enjoy the views from the South West Coastal Path. Ideally situated for visiting some of the many attractions of Cornwall, including Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur, Boscastle with its harbour and Port Isaac, made famous by the TV’s ‘Doc Martin’. Further down the coast are Polzeath with its surfing beach, and Rock where you can take a ferry across to Padstow with its array of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s famous restaurant.
Beach 1 mile. Shops, pub and restaurant 1 mile. The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 9 guests.
The cottage is small but nice. It need few touch ups like "wobbly" tabs but it's not a big issue. It is located in a beautiful spot and just few minutes drive to all tourist attraction such as Tintagel Castle, Boscastle and many more.
We enjoyed a lovely bank holiday weekend staying at Downhouse Cottage, as two couples and a dog! A cosy cottage with enough room for all of us and everything we needed for self catering. A lovely, quiet, country setting but only a quick drive to the coast.
The cottage was booked for a family reunion and we chose it because it was pet friendly. On the whole the facilities were good, very quiet and secluded with stunning views and the big plus point was the huge field behind the cottage where we were able to let our two young dogs run free with no worries of livestock and they had an absolute blast there. However I could not recommend the cottage to other pet owners due to the fact that the garden was not enclosed. Yes there is a surrounding wall and gate but the wall is only about two feet high so dogs could easily jump the wall and get onto the road and although there was very little traffic there was still some and it travelled at quite a speed meaning that I could not let my dogs have the freedom of the garden. Although this did mar our stay there I'm sure that people without pets would find the accommodation acceptable.
We had a wonderful stay in Downhouse the views were outstanding and it was very dog friendly. It’s also close to lots of pretty villages like Boscastle and Gina gave us some great advice on walks and getting the boat from Rock to Padstow making a great day out.
Our second time of staying. Owners are such lovely helpful people. Views are simply stunning. Location is perfect and it’s really easy to get to the surrounding larger areas to visit. Can not recommend enough and yes we will return for a third time!
Our stay September, 2019
Great location with stunning views on the cost. Very quiet area. Very helpful landlord. Rooms rather small but big enough for 4 people. Nice and cosy atmosphere. Bathroom a bit small but ok. Cottage can be cold if windy and cold outside but wooden fire and extra electrical heaters and more than enough to keep it warm inside.
